NECROVENGE – A solo TTRPG

Created by Philip Jensen

NECROVENGE is a solo TTRPG about rebuilding your dungeon and getting your revenge on those pesky adventurers!

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Dec24 – The Prototype Rises
over 1 year ago – Tue, Dec 03, 2024 at 08:32:07 AM

The chill of December is here, snow has fallen, disappeared, and something else has quietly emerged from the darkness…

A very early work-in-progress prototype (emphasis on very and in progress) has made it to my Discord. This is the A-version of the game, which takes the concept of Dark Fort and stretches it into something more ... menacing.

If you're brave enough to dive in, join my Discord and check it out (click the link.) I would love to hear what you think.

Later this month, the B-version of NECROVENGE will claw its way into existence, guess where to find it? You're right. Necrobay. No, sorry, it'll be uploaded to my Discord. So keep your torches lit and your eyes peeled for that update.

As for the rest, progress is steady, if a bit slow. I'm postponing the Pledge Manager, as we're still miles away from fulfilling the project. So it shouldn't matter.

I wish I had more time to sink into this (or more sunlight during the day to work by, it's starting to feel Mörk), but for now, I’m making the most of what I’ve got.

Thanks for sticking with me through the bone-grind, it means the world to my black heart. I'll update you all again around the 1st of January, once I'm resurrected from the "New Year's Eve hangover".

Until then, don't die ... Again,

Phil

November Update – Death looks down upon you
almost 2 years ago – Thu, Oct 31, 2024 at 04:13:19 AM

Greetings, necromancers!

Hope you're all doing well. It’s been a busy time in the vengeful world and it's time for the monthly update! (which arrives in your inbox around the 1st of every month.)

Still Writing Dark Spells
The writing process continues. This stage is about making sure each element feels truly immersive, darkly evocative, and of course, fun. This means that halfway through October I started writing the book again.

What, again? Yes, again. I had a feeling that the book wasn't turning out to be the best it could be, so I'm currently creating two playable demos. Similar in necro-vibe, but different in mechanics and game loop: One focuses more on being "roleplay" whereas the other focuses more on being a "game."

The goal is to put both through playtesting soon, where we’ll see which system fits the NECROVENGE vibe. Once we’ve gathered enough feedback, I’ll choose the most fitting system for the final version. (And who knows – some elements from both might just make it into the final game!)

I know I've teased preorder earlier, but I've chosen to spend what little time I have on writing and progressing NECROVENGE. Once the first demo is out, I'll set up the Backerkit.

Other NECRO-things

If you simply cannot wait on great stories about revenge, I can only encourage you to listen to the great story Tenebroumby my good online friend D. Winchester. He reached out during the campaign as he felt our love for necromancy was shared. I've read the first 8-9 chapters and it's good!

On another necromantic note, I've just stumbled upon this small roguelike on Steam, and I'm excited to try it – eventually.

Do you have any good books or games about being a necromancer that you can recommend? Let me know in the comments.

Thank you again for your amazing support and patience.

Till next time, stay dark and daring – and have a happy Halloween.

Oct24 – Some text, more text, and newly designed text
almost 2 years ago – Mon, Sep 30, 2024 at 10:40:00 PM

It's October! The writing process has begun and the words are pouring out in an ever-expanding document. I'm currently working on getting everything set up for some early testing soon, potentially using my Discord as a place for feedback. Let me know if you would like to participate.

Speaking of words, I've been toying with the typeface on the front cover and it seems to divide people, so in an attempt to confuse my decision further, I would love to hear what you think. Would you be disappointed as a backer if something like the front cover changes?

In another matter, I still need addresses from 10 of you who ordered Trapped Within. I've messaged you here on Kickstarter, so please check your messages :). I would love to send you your add-on now.

What's next?

  • I've taken a week off to accelerate the writing process. The goal is to get a version out for testing sooner rather than later.
  • I'm working on the bookmark oracle, to make it a digital download so you can all start using it in your solo games.
  • I'll update you all around the 1st of November :). The plan is to do monthly updates. If this is not enough let me know in the comments.
Just a peak under the hood. WIP (do I have to write that for legal reasons?)

Thank you for your MASSIVE continued support, your trust, and your patience. In November I'll look at setting up a Bakerkit Late Pledge option for all of you who missed the Kickstarter, but for now the most urgent is to get the testing going.

Until next time, kill some monsters and raise some new ones!

We freaking killed it!

... And thank you for that!

Thank you so much. I mean it. The last three days of the campaign felt like digging up a femur only to realize it was the bone of your favorite dead uncle. Or, to put it differently: it was the cherry on top of an already abundantly delicious ice cream. So thank you to all who backed, shared, commented, laughed, cried, or pressed the button because you wanted to be number 666. Thank you, all of you. With the strong end I have a few ideas on how to add a little extra – but that's a surprise for later.

In true cliché fashion, now the real work begins. I guess it’s a cliché because it contains a grain of truth. Nevertheless, I look forward to making this the very best it can be and delivering on the massive amount of hype that this campaign has garnered. I hope to involve as many of you as possible once the time comes – so if you want to be part of the journey, feel free to join my Discord.

From now on, I will give a monthly update within the first couple of days of each month.

Lastly, to the backers who’ve purchased Trapped Within – I have contacted you through messages on Kickstarter, so please fill out your address as soon as possible. Only 4 of you haven’t received a message, and that’s because your credit card has issues. Once it’s fixed, write me a message, and I’ll send you the form.

Thank you. Now let's reanimate this once and for all.

So many bones – you all unlocked the bookmark!

500 of you have decided to support my work – and snatch yourself a book, who would've believed that so many would get behind this project? Not me. Not my mother. Not even Bert.

It's incredibly amazing and makes this whole project (but also the bookmark) more than a fever dream. It's a reality and one day in the not-so-distant future I will stand with a fistful of books and yell from the top of a mountain: "MUHAHAHA"

Ehm. Anyway. Thank you to all who've backed this project. It means more than you can imagine.

There aren't many days left, so there will be one last stretch goal. At 600 backers I will include a sticker for every physical pledge, maybe they will look something like the two mockups below. With the last few days nearing, consider sending the Kickstarter to a half-way decent friend.

Part of the success of this campaign has been due to all of you lovely backers helping me spread the word. I've been fortunate that some people have included me in their newsletter – firstly The Soloist and yesterday Castle Grief did a cool interview with me. If you didn't know Castle Grief has a Kickstarter running where I'm a backer. So consider checking out their distinct and lovely old-school style!

That's all for now. Take care, let's raise the roof and remember that our favorite cooking utensil is probably a deadpan ... Sorry.
